Antigua lies in the eastern Caribbean,
among a long chain of islands known as the Lesser Antilles.
Every year thousands of tourists visit the island. Most of
them come for the tropical white sand beaches. It is said
that Antigua has a beach for every day of the year! Others
come for a taste of rum, or to hear steel pan bands and reggae
music. Cricket is a big attraction too. Antigua is home to
some of the world's greatest cricketers, including Sir Vivian
Richards, Andy Roberts, Richie Richardson and Curtly Ambrose.
For many years, not much was known
about Antigua's natural treasures. Most people had never even
heard of the Antiguan racer. Now all that is changing, as
visitors and locals learn more about the island's special
wildlife (see Spreading The
Word).
